Upholstery/Fabric

We ask a lot of furniture fabric: It has to be visually appealing, comfortable to the touch - and extremely durable. Today's upholstery options span an almost overwhelming range, from the simple 100% cotton to a mix of any or all of the following: polyester, acrylic, wool, nylon, viscose, linen, olefin or polyacrylic. At Sklar, every line we carry offers wonderful selections of solids, stripes and patterns. Our skilled staff can match new fabrics with your existing décor or help you design an entirely new textile palette.

Upholstery Care

Weekly vacuuming and light brushing to remove dust and grime are recommended to prevent general soiling. Always pretest cleaning products on a small patch and use a professional furniture-cleaning service when necessary.

All fabrics come with cleaning codes and the instructions for each are listed below. We're happy to provide you with specific cleaning info when you make a new purchase, and we sell an after-market upholstery warranty, good for ten years.

W - Spot clean using the foam only from a water-based cleaning agent, such as a mild detergent or non-solvent upholstery shampoo. Apply in a circular motion and vacuum when dry

WS - Spot clean with a mild solvent or upholstery shampoo. When using a solvent, follow instructions carefully and use only in a well-ventilated room.

S - Spot clean using a mild water-free solvent or dry-cleaning product.

X - Clean only by vacuuming or light brushing. Water-based foam cleaners or solvent-based agents of any kind may cause shrinkage, staining or distortion of surface pile and should not be used.

Designer’s Tip #7

Work from the ground up. Knowing what’s going on the floors makes it easier to choose colors for walls and furnishings. But don’t overlook custom area rugs when you need to pull a room together.
